This support comes in many forms, but does make a real difference to peoples lives. You may be assisting a client with daily living tasks, i.e. meal preparation, shopping, making appointments, reminders, etc. You may be helping with their personal care including bathing, showering, washing and dressing. You may also be helping someone to remain comfortable at the end of their lives; working closely with the Community Nurses, Doctors and Macmillan team.

Whatever the task you need to be 100% reliable, kind, compassionate and a calm person who can listen and anticipate the needs of our clients so that you can deliver the very best care at all times, whatever the situation. You will have the full backing and support of the management team 24hrs a day. We will train you and help you realise your potential and encourage you to develop skills in specific aspects of care that you may be interested in, dementia for example.

Job Description

Reports to: Registered Manager

Objectives of Role:

To undertake personal and social care and emotional support as required for the well-being of clients in their own homes and to maintain their independence as much s possible. To keep a watching brief on their changing needs whilst at the same time conducting yourself in a kind, courteous and professional manner so as to present a positive image of yourself and The Home Service (Care Agency) Ltd.

Key Responsibilities:

To provide safe and compassionate care recognising and promoting the clients individual needs and choices. To respect the Clients wishes and to maintain their dignity at all times.
You will be in the front line of delivering care to clients and it is therefore essential that you can recognise and report quickly, any changes or concerns you observe in order to preserve the safety and physical and mental well-being of the client.

Duties:

Every client has an individual Care Plan carefully drawn up to reflect their diverse needs and choices and sets out in detail how this care is to be delivered. The duties are many and varied and our visits are designed to promote independence as much as possible not just to carry out specific tasks. Here are some of the duties you may be undertaking:-

Social Support

To include conversation, walking, shopping and other recreational activities. Helping Clients maintain contact with family and ifiends and local community events. Assisting with the welfare of pets. Encouraging the maintenance of hobbies and interests. To provide mental stimulation to those clients with dementia — going through photo albums for example.

Personal Care

To assist with showering, bathing, washing and oral hygiene. To assist with toileting and continence care.
To assist with personal care of high dependency clients who are poorly or bedridden and to work closely with other health professionals, Macmillan Nurses and Community Nurses for example.

Medication

To prompt, encourage, assist or administer medication in accordance with strict guidelines and to record accurately on Medical Administration Record. To order and collect medication.

Food and Drink

To assist Clients to compile a shopping list and maintain healthy food and drink stocks.
To encourage a healthy diet. To assist with the preparation and serving of meals. To wash up and clear away and maintain clean, hygienic food preparation areas.

Light Domestic Duties

Although not a cleaning company we recognise the importance of a tidy clean home to promote safety and control infection. Duties will include hoovering, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, toilets and kitchens, ironing and organising the laundry and bed changing.

Equipment

Safely and appropriately using aids and equipment whilst promoting the dignity of clients at all times. Full training will be given in the use of all equipment such as hoists and tracking hoists, and wheelchairs. Also all manual handling equipment such as slide sheets, transfer boards, handling belts, etc.

Record Keeping and Reporting

To record all relevant details of duties undertaken during your visit in the care plan together with record of medication assistance given and to submit Duty Sheets to office every month. To contact office with any concerns regarding Clients mental health or physical wellbeing.
To report to the office as quickly as possible any equipment failures or health and safety issues within the home. To record all responses to accidents and emergencies.
To report immediately, any safeguarding issues.

Training

To attend all mandatory training sessions as required by the regulators. Willingness to attend all training and development sessions designed to enhance and improve your skills and help you use equipment safely.
